I’ve seen, or at least I remember seeing, people having trouble trying to get the music notes in this game, and that just screams bad design to me. So after I beat this boring mission, I was told with a pop-up message that I could ring the bell above the door to the mission and make a music note fly away from me annoyingly rather than just automatically giving me the reward as soon as I exit the mission. There is an awkward part at the end of the mission where the level design has a long stretch of land that always encourages me to boost, and then fall into a lake and I have to hit a dashpad sending me up a wall to get to the spring leading me to the goal ring. At least I feel like there’s completely new level design, but this may just be another Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic Colors situation where I forget if they recycle level design or not.
Why does this mission have a time limit? It’s like 600 seconds, so it’s very lenient, but that just made me so focused on beating the slow boring level in time that I forgot to focus on the rings. I failed the mission the first time, the second time I flew up really high with Tails keeping the boost button held down and then furiously called bullshit upon being sent falling to my death past the floor and springs right at the end of the level. Is Eggman stalling Sonic?Īnyways, I hate how the rings disappear, and so quickly that you’re guaranteed to get cheated out of a whole bunch of rings at the start of the level alone because you have to go to the rightmost block and then jump up stairs to the left to get them all. Seriously, these missions have no justification in-universe.

I ended up playing as Tails in a kind of annoying, slow and boring mission in Modern Chemical Plant Zone in a 2D section that’s underwater and full of slowly moving yellow blocks, where you need a certain amount of rings collected from a flying robot in the background to beat the level for some reason. And then I tried to fly in 3D in Sky Sanctuary, and crashed my whole computer with the music still playing and the boost sound playing. Oh, I can’t find it, actually.Īfter seeing an eyestraining red tint a lot on all the landscapes, I quickly realized I had to disable FxPpipeline Renderer to make the graphics look right, which I forgot I had on. I think I’ll start out with Tails in the annoying Marble Garden moving platform mission. They also have the homing-attack, which is weird, but convenient, if hard to remember.

I love how there’s actually a Tails mod where you can fly with Tails (using the X button no less) and you can glide with Knuckles.

I’ll use Character Mods while playing the missions just to help make them more interesting. I like the concept of being able to choose which missions you play, so you can skip the awful ones. It said to me that there’s 5 challenge missions for each Act, and I really hope I’m allowed to skip some missions. I’m guessing none of the missions will be nearly as fun as playing the levels normally and will recycle the level design at that, meaning we’ll be playing less fun versions of the levels we already played. Well most of them are still FUN, that’s probably why. And I’m surprised more people don’t call Generations out on that bullshit.
Now I have to beat challenge missions to get Boss Keys very arbitrarily. Even I don’t wanna read all of that AGAIN. So I’m just going to leave the missions impressions to save everyone the trouble. It’d be more convenient to listen to my Let’s Plays of stuff like, say, Sonic Heroes or Sonic 4, while doing something else, than having to sit there and read for hours.
